If you consider WhatsApp to be a completely secure messaging app then this is your confusion. Because over 1,400 WhatsApp accounts have been hacked in the last 2 weeks. Facebook has revealed the involvement of Israeli company NSO for hacking.
Facebook has announced to sue the NSO. According to Facebook, the NSO Group is working on a technology that is giving hackers and Israeli government officials access to people's private messages on WhatsApp.
Do not pick up unknown video calls
WhatsApp has alerted people that you do not take unannounced video calls or else your account is likely to be hacked. Hackers can influence the smartphone of users through video calls. WhatsApp has also released security updates for users to avoid this potential attack.
In May 2019, Facebook's engineers noticed a cyber attack. This cyber attack was done through WhatsApp video calling. At present, there are more than 40 crores WhatsApp users in the country.
100 people of India have been affected
WhatsApp is calling 1,400 users and informing them about their account being hacked. More than 100 of the people affected are from civil societies in India. Of the 1,400 people who have been spied, most are high-profile people or journalists.
