What is LiFi Technology?

What is LIFI?

Li-Fi (light fidelity) is the wireless communication technology, which use light to transmit data. The term Li-Fi was first introduced by Harald Has in the year 2011, the Li-Fi was first introduced in March 2011 by digital communication industry.
The physical range of Li-Fi is visible light spectrum ultraviolet and infrared radiation, the Li-Fi is the light communication system which is capable of transmitting data at high speeds over the visible light, ultraviolet and infrared spectrum's. The technology is similar to Wi-Fi but the key difference is that the Wi-Fi uses radio frequency to transmit data where as Li-Fi uses light to transmit data, most notably the Li-Fi has wider bandwidth and has ability to safely function in the areas which are susceptible to electromagnetic interference such areas are airport cabins, military, hospital.

Will it replace WiFi in the near future?

The Li-Fi technology offers higher transmission speed, it's is a derivative of optical wireless communication (OWC) which uses light from light emitting diodes ( LEDs) as a medium to deliver network. The federal communications commission has warned of potential spectrum crises because Wi-Fi is close to full capacity, where as Li-Fi has almost no limitations on capacity, the visible light spectrum is 10,000 times larger than the entire radio frequency spectrum.
In October 2013, it was reported that Chinese manufacturers were working on Li-Fi development kit, later in April 2014 the Russian company stubs Coman announced the development of a Li-Fi wireless local network called Beam Caster the current module of transfer data is at 1.25 GB/s, but they foresee boosting speed up to 5 GB/s in the future.
